Job Description

The School of Applied Sciences and Arts within the College of Integrative Arts and Sciences on the Downtown Phoenix campus of Arizona State University invite applications to establish a pool for Social Science Faculty Associates for the 2025-2026 academic year. The successful candidate(s) will teach undergraduate courses in Social Science (Sociology Political Science or other Social Science courses as needed); prepare class materials; evaluate student work; and hold office hours to assist students. Faculty Associate positions are one semester non-benefits-eligible fixed-term appointments with no tenure implications not to exceed an average of 0.40 FTE per semester. The number of courses is contingent upon unit needs funding and sufficient enrollment. Salary is based upon qualifications and assigned teaching load.

The School of Applied Sciences and Arts in the College of Integrative Sciences and Arts at Arizona State University delivers applied sciences and liberal arts courses to students from all majors at the Polytechnic and Downtown Phoenix campuses. It has more than 170 full-time faculty who serve nearly 4500 students majoring in career-focused applied-learning programs including undergraduate applied biology majors in pre-veterinary medicine pre-dental and sustainable horticulture; applied physics; applied quantitative science; interdisciplinary studies; science technology and society; history of science technology and innovation; communication; and more.

The School of Applied Sciences and Arts leads ASUs Writers Studio which provides first-year composition courses to all ASU Online students. It also offers the nations first degree in military and veterans studies led by ASUs Office for Veteran and Military Academic Engagement (OVMAE). The OVMAE is committed to the robust support of veteran military-affiliated and dependent students. The school is also home to the Latinx Oral History Lab which offers undergraduate research and storytelling opportunities. Essential Functions:

• Plan and create lectures class discussions and assignments.
• Deliver excellent in-class instruction.
• Answer emails and other communications from students in a timely manner.
• Grade assigned papers quizzes and exams. Provide timely and substantive feedback on student assessments.
• Post grades prior to ASU deadlines.

Required Qualifications:

• Masters degree in Sociology Political Science or a related field at time of appointment.
• Ability to teach in digital environments such as Canvas (asynchronously and/or synchronously).
• Demonstrated commitment to values expressed by the ASU Charter.

Desired Qualifications:

• Terminal degree in Social Science or related field at time of appointment
• Evidence of effective teaching
• Two semesters of teaching experience in a post-secondary environment
• Evidence of activities consistent with the ASU Charter
